Exhibit to Open

Within the Wilderness
Show opens May 20th, 7-9pm
$15 entrance fee

On May 20th, 2016, 7-9pm–Greenly Art Space will host the opening reception of “Within the Wilderness”. This annual fundraising art show is geared towards supporting Greenly Art Space as well as a local organization involved with environmental restoration. Each unique art piece explores the artist’s personal interpretation of their understanding of “wilderness.”

Each artist had their own unique take on the theme “Within the Wilderness”. There is artwork based on the beauty and wonder found in wilderness and nature. There are other works that reflected the dark, emotional turmoil of human experience of being within the wilderness. Still others came up with imaginative, abstract pieces. One such artist, Roxanne Norman, submitted a painting titled “A Secret Garden”. She explains that, “The world of imagination itself is a kind of wilderness, with its vast choice of colors, lines, and shape-shifting forms…A Secret Garden became the tangible expression of my imagination’s journey within the wilderness of artistic creation.” Approximately 40 artists were selected to present their art work at the show.

Greenly’s Director, Kimberly Hocking, states, “It is our hope that this show inspires artists and viewers to consider how the concept of ‘Wilderness’ impacts their lives. We are excited to have the funds raised go back into supporting Greenly’s mission to provide a space for community artists to inspire others and be inspired. We are also excited that a portion of funds raised will go to help with habitat restoration in our local community.”

Greenly Art Space is involved with actively campaigning for environmental preservation, by spreading awareness to the community through art shows like “Within the Wilderness”.   To this end, Greenly Art Space has chosen Bolsa Chica Land Trust, (BolsaChicaLandTrust.org), to be its guest beneficiary at this year’s fundraising show. BCLT is a 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to “acquiring, preserving, and restoring all of Bolsa Chica and educating the public to its natural wonders and cultural significance.” They are working toward preserving the natural state of the ecosystem within the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. For the opening night, Greenly Art Space has also invited a local Long Beach band, “The Previous Owners” to return again to perform.

“Within the Wilderness” will include the art show, refreshments, appetizers, and live music. Greenly Art Space is located at 2698 Junipero Ave. #113, Signal Hill, CA 90755. There will be an entrance fee of $15 per person at the opening May 20th, 7-9pm. The artwork presented will be for sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to Bolsa Chica Land Trust to further their cause for environmental preservation and restoration. This exhibit will run from May 20-July 14, 2017 and can be viewed by appointment (562) 533-4020 or during regular gallery hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 11am-2pm.
