Dorte Christjansen

Watercolor/Silk Batik

A major influence in my becoming an artist was my paternal grandfather, Rasmus Christiansen, who was a well-known painter and illustrator in Denmark.  I was particularly impressed by an ink drawing of an oak tree which I spent many hours copying as well as admiring his attention to detail and trying to learn his ink techniques.  The imagery I select is inspired by my surroundings, whether landscape, garden or my cats. Nature is my inspiration, especially the Colorado Lagoon's flora and fauna. The paintings displayed here are either batik (wax resist and dyes) on silk or watercolor on Yupo synthetic paper that has a surface I find perfect for the techniques and effects I favor.
